The Gold Standard for Allergy Testing is Skin Prick Test. It is as simple as pricking your skin and inserting Small Amount of allergen in Upper Layer of Your Skin. The Skin Prick Test is used to identify the allergen responsible for triggering symptoms like skin rash, repeated cough and cold, sneezing, recurrent stomach pain etc due to allergies.

How is the SKIN PRICK TEST done?

The test is usually Performed on your arm or on your back. When an allergen is inserted under a layer of your skin and if you are allergic to it, Your immune system kicks in and Sends antibodies to defend against these allergens.when these antibodies on that cells blind with allergens on it triggers the release of chemicals such as Histamines,Leukotrienes and chemicals mediators this contributes to an allergic reaction.Because of this you see a red itchy bump (wheal) Formation after 20-30 Minutes. The reaction is measured and the bump disappears within a few hours.

Why does one need a skin prick test?

A skin prick test is often advised by an allergy specialist to confirm the diagnosis. It is used to remove these allergens from an individual’s surroundings. A skin prick test is sometimes used to diagnose a variety of allergic conditions, including:

  • Allergic Rhinitis
  • Asthma
  • Atopic Dermatitis
  • Urticaria
  • Food allergy

Skin prick test results have been used for identifying the triggering agents. After that, better avoidance measures can be taken.

Milk allergy in babies - Is it common?

While you might’ve heard a lot about babies with milk allergies & intolerance, it’s not as common as you might think. Many new parents often fail to know if the allergy is due to milk, dairy, or any other allergens. Although it is more common than other types of allergies in young babies, milk allergies usually affect 2-3% of babies. To help clear up the issue, we asked Dr. Bela Gandhi, Allergist at Allercure - the allergy clinic to explain.

Dr. Bela Gandhi recalls a similar incident that happened. A mother with a 5 months old baby cause to her clinic with complaints of rashes all over her body and irritability, she gave a history of the baby developed rash when the baby was 7 days old and since then the baby is cranky, fussy, gassy, and unhappy, the baby otherwise growing well and baby is only on breastfeeding. Using all the medications prescribed by more than 4-5 consultants without any relief. Little did they know that it was due to the Milk Protein and the dairy content of the mother’s diet that the baby was facing an allergic reaction. Just stopping milk and milk products from the mother’s diet, the baby’s rash disappeared and he became calm and quiet. Slowly and steadily the baby recovered from all the symptoms. Baby will be re-introduced to the milk after a few months slowly after changing the form of milk protein allergen.

After Dr. Bela Gandhi had suspicions. She insisted that the baby should be given milk only after boiling it at 100 degrees Celsius. Boiling milk is known to significantly lessen milk’s nutritional value, it also greatly reduces its whey protein levels. Which in turn would reduce the levels of the allergy itself. Slowly & steadily the baby recovered from the allergy. Afterward, the milk was condensed into a pudding form, which made it edible.

Getting That Pre-Baby Body Back

It's impossible not to notice, how our modern pop culture's stereotypes influence how women should look after giving birth. It all comes down to a not-so-realistic picture, an expectation that many believe is unattainable and simply impossible to achieve with anything conventional.
